If you think you'll be offended, please don't read and leave nasty notes in my journal.

Bush has never been a favorite of mine. He's made decisions that I never fully agreed with--views that never meshed with mine, etc. But tonight, he gave a speech at Ft. Bragg in N.C. One of the things he said was 'the bloodshed in Iraq was worth it.'

Excuse me? Since when is anything like that WORTH IT? I believe in the troops, I support them and wish them the best, but I also wish them home. They don't need to be over there any longer--this stupid war has gone on for far too long. I didn't mind it so much when it first started, but it's been too long and it's not accomplishing anything but more deaths--civillian and solider alike. I'm sure everyone knows somebody over there--I know several people--many of the people I went to high school are over there. My first boyfriend is over there.

The way he is talking about sending more troops over, of having people in reserve to go fight the battle in Iraq, pisses me off. Our soldiers are not toys that he can parade around a battlefield. They are men and women that believe in our country, in preserving it, yes--but they are not mindless weapons that can easily be disposed of!

I'm just so pissed over this right now and I just want this war to END. I want us out of there and our troops back home.

*hugs*

Death is never worth it, not when you see what war does to people, those who die and those around.

Exactly--that's exactly how I feel about it and thank you for phrasing it so well.

I totally agree with you, and I've never liked him, he's a war monger just like his fskin father ::huggles:: I hope this ends soon too. I know if Kim goes over there it'll just kill my mother...and I don't think I could deal with that either.

I'm going to make a suggestion. Please bear in mind that this is said with the utmost kindness and freindship.

Please lock entries that you know will upset people. If you want to foster civil discussion, that's wonderful. But if you're just going to rant about something that most everyone feels strongly about, please, please please lock the entry.

But putting up a sentence that says "Don't read if you think be offended" it ensures that whatever blurb you post gets read. If you really don't want to offend your friends who may disagree with you, then lock them from those people.

Or be prepared to except that some of your friends have absolutely no problem with telling you their opinions as well.

Because I do disagree with you Trisha. I'm not being nasty. I'm not being hateful. But I do disagree with you.

I urge you to consider locking this entry and others like it in the future.

I knew that it was going to be read by people, and I don't mind comments that are aganist my views--I accept all views. *huggles* I know how you feel about it Kayla--and I don't mind your views at all. I'm talking about the people that will curse my name and tell me to go to hell because of what I wrote. I understand your side of it totally and I love you for it.

I'm a military brat and it was just the way things were said that made me upset. I've ranted and cooled off now, and I'm not quite as upset as I was before. I really don't mind opinions, Kayla. ^__^ That's what online journals are for.

See, now hell is a place that I don't think anyone should have to experience so I rarely tell those I care about to go there. I'm so glad you took it very well. I was worried that the written word would limit how I wanted it to be taken.

And as for opinions, I think that they're great. It's only by discussing opposite view points are minds lifted to a higher sort of awareness and truth.

Seriously, thank you for taking it so well ^_^

Friend of Puppy's and, like you, just heard/watched that Bush speech, what really stings is that my uncle's wife is over there and he finds out this week if he'll be going there or not.

I agree with what you said, it's time for us to pull out and stay out.

I wish it would happen, honestly. Our troops over there don't need to go through all of what they are going through, and while it is nice to help this country that has been through so much, we also have to live up to our promise that we made at the beginning of this whole thing.

I agree. That comment was uncalled for. Whoever wrote that speech-- how insensitive. I expected a pack of lies from Bush-- now that the majority of the country sees what a waste this war is, and want our boys and girls home-- I expected Bush to pull out all the stops and try to trick people, once again, into thinking 9/11=Iraq. But I did not expect some of the rhetoric he used which was just so cringe-worthy. I wonder how many other people he made angry with that choice of words?

The thing is, I can see both sides of the issue as well. But it hurts so bad to see that particular phrasing. A lot of what he said was good, it was the way it was said and presented that just made my jaw drop. I called up my friend and cried because of it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that got upset by it.

I see what you mean.

Actually, opinion shows only something like %37 of Americans still support the war-- which is a REALLY low number. So I expected Bush to really, really try to win people over with this speech, pulling all the stops you know? But I thought the speech was suprisingly lacking, and that one phrase could have totally been taken the wrong way so I was really shocked to hear it in his speech.

(Just thought I'd leave a note.)

Seriously though, well said. It's been a long war and everyone is ready to have the troops home. Despite all of the political rhetoric, an important point was mentioned. We can't say that we're pulling out. When we do, or when they see us begin to do so, all the terrorists will have to do is 'wait it out.' While I don't agree with all of the bloodshed, I do agree with the good that has been done and with the initial reason for going over there.

It is unfortunate that Bush is thought of as a 'warmonger.' The reason this war came about is due in a large part to the complacency that we all learned during Clinton's 8 years in office, so name calling really isn't suitable. It's something that had to be done and unfortunately had more ramifications than it should have had.

The important thing is just to have faith that it will be over soon and that our troops will come home. One good thing that has come out of this would be the support and unity that our country has gained in the love and faith we have gained for our military.

And I don't think of him as one. He just read a badly written speech that really pushed a lot of wrong buttons. Like Antigone said, whoever wrote the speech--it was insensitive. I'm sure he has a lot of ideals and ideas and wants to do the right thing--but it all goes back to what your parents say.

"It's not what you say, it's how you say it."

I had to stop watching Bush on the Tv because it made me foam at the mouth. He is an imbecile. He's one of those people who's so sure hes right he won't listen to anyone else. The serious problem with that though is that he is currently running a powerful powerful country and is having a grand old time playing Risk with live American soldiers. One of my friends from high school was killed last week. He was 23, the same age as me. He was also an only child. Now I want Bush to say to his mother's face that his bloodshed is worth it. Jackass.

My roommate pointed out that the statement was meant for a general audience and would work better, but that general audience was comprised of people that lost people in this war.

I didn't even watch that on tv, I just got a nasty shock when I came across the text of the speech on the net. I called my friend and cried about it. It's so stupid and pointlesa at this point....

I agree. He's a jackass.

:( Being a Singaporean, I can't really say much about Bush in general but I DO believe that his decision to invade Iraq on false evidence was wrong and now the whole situation is just one huge mess. I send my condolences to those who lost their friends or loved ones in this war that should have never happened. Well, Bush really really needs to understand the people better if he's been making such inflammatory speeches. =___=|||
