Dear Patricia Thacker,

It is our great pleasure to inform you that you have successfully passed the 2nd stage of the screening process for the 2007 JET Program and have been selected as an alternate Assistant Language Teacher. This means you are now on the waiting list to determine if you will participate on the Program this year. You may be upgraded to a “short listed” (placement pending) participant as early as the end of April, or as late as the end of October. Alternate candidates are asked to be prepared to leave on as little as two weeks’ notice.

Well, it's not what I hoped for-- b/c such little notice is rather... well, hard to deal with. And waiting yet again. That is frustrating and now I'm 'second-choice'. >_> I mean, I wasn't rejected totally, but still.....

Edit: I know it's not as bad as it seems, a lot of the alternates get promoted to full status-- but it's the waiting again. I can't exactly put my life on hold while I wait for someone to call or email me. It could happen in the next so many days, the end of the month--or sometime in the summer. Now, I have a job in the summer that I can work at, and my roommate suggested getting another campus job-- since I'll be a graduate, I can have a salaried position. I'll see what I can work out with that. Two jobs will help nicely with paying for rent and other expenses. And the second job will be something I can possibly keep if I never get called for JET.

It's terribly disappointing and frustrating all at the same time, but there isn't much I can do, except fill out the correct paperwork and hope for the best.

Hey...at least there is still a chance. And we'll all keep our fingers crossed for ya. Nobody deserves this more than you.

Don't. You still have a good chance of getting in.

You're not rejected, which is huge-- and it sounds like there's a good chance of getting in. I'll keep praying and all for you, too-- you totally deserve it.

I don't know the chances of something like that, though--or where I'm on the list... or how it works. I mean... all of a sudden a yes or no? Waiting until as far as October?

I was an alternate too. You'd be surprised how many get in....

Really?

Then the chances are good? *perks up* How good would you say?

*clings*

And when did you find out? You're my HOPE! =D

Seriously. I'm depressed over the alternate status, when I know it's boatloads better than being rejected.

Good enough good? ;p Sorry, I'm not in a mood to be reassuring as I'm in full panic mode.

I found out... late May, I think? I have a feeling the alternates that year got shoed in pretty fast. Dunno how usual that was.

*hugs* I really hope that you get in! Alternative isn't bad, though. A lot of people get bumped up. The first wave of bumps will come after the deadline passes to accept/deny the "short-list" letter. Believe it or not, people turn it down. The second big wave comes in...I think May?...whenever the placements go out. People turn it down left and right when they don't get a placement that they want.

I really hope that you get bumped up! *so* badly!! If for some reason you don't, I have heard that many people who are chosen as alternates and apply again the following year get short-listed. Of course, the suckers who turn down their positions (giving it to alternates such as yourself!) can't apply again.

Ganbatte! At least it's partial-good news!

:)

I hope I get bumped up, too-- the only thing to do is wait (which is really hard at this time of the year) but ... I really want it, so very badly. I don't think I'd have the heart to re-apply next year; the waiting all over again, the interview-- all over again... -_-
