"I don’t know why you're acting like you miss that place," Hikari raised an eyebrow at Kytia, who turned around at the casual words.

"Why wouldn't I miss it?" She narrowed her eyes at her supposed brother. "It was my home for quite some time." The trees seemed to only let in patches of light, most of it highlighting the strands of red in Hikari's hair—hair too much like her own.

Hikari shrugged. "Just that they're humans; they're fun to play with, but beyond that?" He raised an eyebrow and tugged on her hair. "Nothing. So forget about them, it's not worth it."

Kytia stopped dead and glared at him, hands on her hips. "I still don't believe you one bit about me or you being one of the Senna. They don't exist, they're simply fairy stories for children."

"Kytia—" now Hikari's look was pained, and he gripped her shoulders beneath his hands, licking his lips and trying to get her to understand. "You didn't even spend a fraction of time with those humans, and you talk of them with more longing than you do of your real family."

He looked thoughtful for a moment, trying to find the words that he needed to get through to her, not releasing her from his grip. "Just…think for a moment, Kytia. Do you honestly—truly—miss those humans, that place—or do you just think that you should?" He hushed her when she would have replied straightaway. "Think about it, don't give me your standard answers."

Kytia blinked for a moment, trying to get past the justification that she should miss the village that she had lived in for so long, have some connection to the people that she known; that had taken care of her when she was young. She had enjoyed playing tricks and running around, snatching a bit of food here and there that was offered—and not offered—to her. But as she thought about it, she realized she wouldn’t mind going to another place and doing the same thing.

Hikari saw the answer in her eyes before she said anything and nodded. "It's not a bad thing, you know," he said, tugging her along again down the pathway. "It's just the way things are. You don't have the connection to humans like you do to our people, so it's not like you can really care about them."

He paused an shrugged. "After all, it's not like you have a soul."

~

"What do you mean I don't have a soul?" she demanded. "Everything has a soul!"

"Well, perhaps that's not the best word…" Hikari looked vaguely embarrassed at having his sister faint at his innocent words. Knowledge that she should already know and didn't. She glared at him, demanding an explanation.

"Well, what we have isn't what a human would call a soul—" his lips turned down briefly. "Since your soul is an element—air and light," he said simply, shrugging. "Humans don't see that as a soul and thus, we are demons in their eyes." He smirked. "Not that I'd want to be classified by their restrictions of life."

"But… they…worship us in a way, don’t they?" Her gaze was suspicious again, and Hikari sighed. He knew that there would be a long road of explanations ahead, until his sister remembered her true life, not the mortal one imposed upon her.

So.................................no more drabbles and more serious novel work, yeah?

Otherwise..it's so frustrating to try to remember this story...and then the blurb is so short! This is what comes when you get used to writing drabbles....

I'll work on my novel if you work on yours. We can turn it into a contest. What do you say?

Will it be more developed by then?

I think we need to make a writing challenge for ourselves. Please?
