lazchan: (huh?)
While browsing through FFN to try and find a halfway decent story, I am discovering something that is becoming more and more common.

Well, it's not that much of a surprise...badly written fanfics. I'm not talking about your ordinary, run of the mill fanfics, I'm talking about hideous fanfics that have no right to be posted.

Example...

it's baack! ok, so here's the deal: you're an orphan with no memories of the past. the only thing you have of high value is a sky blue shell. so what happens when you find that shell's "mate"? are you truly... the wavedancer? youxhiei

*eyebrows raise* Wow, and I thought Mary Sue's were trying to be more subtle these days. That they've gained somewhat of a bit of style, finesse and general sneakiness. This is just...

And it's not the only one. I've found at least ten, by as many different authors, with the same general theme. "YouxCharacter" Um... yeah... sure. Sounds exciting. *rubs head* The closest I ever came to this was a complete gag story I wrote with my friends. It never got online(thank goodness) and the only people who ever saw it were the ones that wrote it. It was nice and private, and KNOWN as a joke. This just aggravates me. Can people try and be original here? I actually found a "choose your own adventure" type fanfic story for a series.

*bangs head*

Not to mention all the crossovers. *takes a deep breath* While it's amusing to imagine your favorite characters interacting with other favorite characters--some things are simply not done. I'm not aganist all crossovers. Some can be managed, some are actually well written. But some make me want to curl up and cry... or laugh myself sick from the plotline that was devised.

The main trend is putting EVERYTHING possible with HP. Sure, there are plenty of fics about HP. More than you can think of--but the crossovers! Good freaking gods, people! You don't crossover some things. How would you explain the logisitics of things?

Again, some may be done well. But there are too many out there that are so badly written, that I hesitate to give them to title of 'story.' Check your plot, grammar, spelling--everything before you post. Some mistakes are fine. Little mistakes won't kill you. Everyone makes them. But...*tries to calm down*

Why do I read it if it's so awful? Hell, I just read the summaries most of the time. Then I'll peek in occasinally and laugh myself sick at the way things are written. The cliches and bad form and format... maybe I'm more nitpicky since I'm concentrating on my major. I don't know. But... quality does count for something. You can have a fabulous plotline--but if you do, please take the time to write it well. Plan it out, take your time with it and make it so that other people want to read it.
